Hôtel Grand Barrail, Saint-Émilion

L’histoireThe story

The dialogue between heritage and contemporary counterpoints, the dialogue with nature: such is the guiding thread of the Grand Barrail. The reception resembles a private sitting room with its library and artworks. A large ceiling fresco catches the eye — a contemporary work whose colours express the vines and the earth (a work by Lysiane Koller). The bar, installed in the rotunda, is entirely composed of mouldings and historic stained glass. The mouldings, restored with gold leaf, are elevated within a deliberately intimate setting. The Moorish room is the centrepiece: a setting that echoes the château architect's attachment to travel and North Africa. The Moorish ornaments are preserved as found, in homage to the heritage. In the bedrooms, the classical-contemporary dialogue plays out against nature, along the vines and the château park.
