Michel Bassompierre est l'un des artistes les plus importants dans le champ de la sculpture animalière contemporaine. Il a insufflé à cette discipline un style singulier et nouveau reconnaissable au premier regard. Séduisante et attachante, son œuvre a parcouru le monde, laissant échapper son bestiaire de marbre et de bronze aux quatre coins du globe. Formé dans l'atelier de Leleu à l'école des Beaux-Arts de Rouen, Michel Bassompierre apprend à regarder. Ce sont des kilos de croquis qu'il réalise et par lesquels il construit sa compréhension du corps de l'animal, cette machine savamment articulée dont il saisit la ligne et le mouvement. Seductive and endearing, his work has travelled the world, releasing its bestiary of marble and bronze to the four corners of the globe. Trained in the Leleu workshop at the Rouen School of Fine Arts, Bassompierre learned to observe. He produced kilos of sketches through which he built his understanding of the animal body — that masterfully articulated machine — capturing its line and movement. It is precisely this life that he conveys, making his work profoundly sensitive.
